On January 16th the 9th Annual Capital District Region Future City Competition was held at Hudson Valley Community College. The Mohawk-Hudson Section sponsored the "Most Innovative Design of Infrastructure" specialty award. The award winner was Farnsworth Middle School with their city “Kespe’ Kewaq” who also came in second place overall at the competition. I would also like to congratulate the team from Holy Spirit for coming in first place with their city “Spazio Verde.” I was able to attend this year’s event and would like to thank the members of the section that were able to volunteer as mentors and those that attended the event and showed their support for the competition. I was impressed by the amount of work that the teams put into the competition and would recommend for those that are attending the seminars at Engineers Week to stop by the Future City booth and talk to the students and ask about their models. They are sure to impress you with their knowledge.
The Mohawk-Hudson Section has been awarded the 2009 National Outstanding Website Award for large sections. This is a great honor for our section and I’d like to congratulate and thank Andy Jensen for his dedication to revamping the website and keeping it updated. We are always looking to improve our website so any comments should be directed to Andy.
The Mohawk-Hudson Section is again awarding our scholarship this year to high school seniors who plan on majoring in civil engineering. The award is $1,000 per year for up to four years. Applications will be available at our booth during Engineers Week or can be obtained from contacting myself or our Vice President, Jennifer Everleth.
Lastly I wanted to highlight the advancement in membership grades in ASCE throughout our professional careers.
