MAJ Adam Chalmers (P.E. M.ASCE) was recently recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers' Committee on Student Activities as the 2009 Outstanding Faculty Advisor for Region 1.  MAJ Chalmers was the faculty advisor of the Civil and Military Engineering Club, which is the also the West Point Student Chapter of ASCE, during 2008, the year this award recognizes. Region 1 of ASCE includes student chapters at 48 colleges and universities throughout New England, New York, and New Jersey.  This award is given based on a narrative nomination that is written and sent in my students who desire to recognize their faculty advisor.

The Civil & Military Engineering Club sponsored by Department of Civil & Mechanical Engineering at West Point as well as supported by the Mohawk-Hudson Section and the Mid-Hudson Branch of ASCE, was recently recognized as the outstanding student chapter in ASCE Region 1.  The selection of best chapter is based on an annual report detailing the students' participation and activities to include professional, technical and social events, involvement with ASCE events as well as student service beyond the school.  Region 1 of ASCE includes student chapters in 48 colleges and universities throughout New England, New York and New Jersey.  The Club was also recognized as being a finalist for the ASCE Ridgway Award which recognizes the outstanding Student Chapter of the over 270 student chapters in the entire US.  What is significant is the sustained level of excellence achieved by this academic club, which is without equal among ASCE Chapters.  The Chapter has been recognized as best student chapter in Zone 1 or Region 1**, in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and was the Ridgway Award winner in 2007.  The Cub has also been a Ridgway finalist in 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2009.

(**NOTE: ASCE changed from 4 Zone to 9 Region organization in 2006, Zone

1 had 71 school and Region one has 48)
